Celebrating the life of
Huguenin Thomas III
March 04, 1939 - March 26, 2025
Huguenin Thomas III March 4, 1939 March 26, 2025
A true Southern gentleman, Hue Thomas was born in Savannah to the late Alma Sanders and Huguenin Thomas, Jr. He is survived by his wife Margaret Frances McLaughlin Thomas (Fran), brother Dwight Rembert Thomas, and children Elizabeth Leigh Thomas Barron (Mark) and Mark Harrington Thomas (Angelia), grandchildren Megan Elizabeth Barron, and Chase Justin Thomas.
A graduate of Benedictine High School, Hue went to Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama then transferred to Georgia Tech where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management.
Hue and Fran moved to Savannah from Richmond, Virginia in 2003 when Hue retired from a 30 year career with Owens and Minor Inc. Together they opened Gallery 440, renovated a house in historic Savannah and became involved in civic and social activities.
Following in his family tradition, Hue was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club, the Oglethorpe Club, and the Chatham Club. He served on the boards of the Telfair Museum, the Gary Melchers Collectors Society, Historic Savannah, and Senior Citizens where he served as Chairman and was awarded a life time board membership. In 2012 he was awarded Historic Savannah’s Nicola Parker Coe award for volunteer of the year.
Beautiful both inside and outside, he will be remembered for his gentle manner and kindness. He enjoyed helping lost tourists, enhancing their experience with stories about his beloved Savannah. Traveling abroad, volunteering at Liberty Mutual’s Legends of Golf, and spending summers on the cool porch in Highlands North Carolina were favorite activities after retirement,
Fran and Hue celebrated their 50 year anniversary four years ago. Asked advice for a long marriage her answer is “patience, love and choosing the right partner.”
